With Taiyou Con behind us, there’s a fresh new year to dive into for gaming. For those who are looking to attend for gaming events, the crew at LAN Speed Games is hosting their first Lock-in/All Nighter of 2013 next week.

Say Hello to Some AZHP Gaming

After a very busy start to the year, our friends at AZHP have been busy indeed, and have got a few events to show for it. This weekend the group will host gaming at the Tucson Con Nichiwa convention, as well as gaming for DESERTBASH later on this year.

Con-Nichiwa is the Tucson-based anime convention taking place on March 23 through March 25th at the Holiday Inn & Suites in the Tucson Airport-North area. AZHP released their gaming schedule last week on the tournaments they have planned for each day of the event, they go like so:
Friday

-12 p.m. BlazBlue: Continuum Shift EXTEND (PS3)
-3 p.m. Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii)
-6 p.m. Soul Calibur V (PS3)

DEVASTATION: A Few Words With Jedirobb

DEVASTATION is only a few days away and the event is loaded and ready to go. The Pause Button got the chance to talk to the event coordinator Robb Chiarini (aka Jedirobb), and get some details, as well as thoughts on the upcoming tournament.

The event is set to officially begin on Friday October 7th and continue through Sunday at the Phoenix Convention Center. A multitude of competitions will be held for numerous first-person shooter, fighting, sports, rhythm, and strategy games throughout the weekend.

DEVASTATION recently suffered the loss of Team Sp00ky due to the alleged confiscation of their equipment by Homeland Security. Chiarini confirmed that there are three other stream broadcasters lined up for the convention including LevelUp and local boys Team Haz-mat to run the fighting game shows, with Beyond Gaming to cover the PC side of the competitions. They will broadcast on three separate channels through Twitch.tv: TwitchTV/DEVEVENT, TwitchTV/DEVASTATIONEVENT, and TwitchTV/BeyondGaming. according to the official event website. U.S. Supreme Court Ruling on Proposed Videogame Ban (the breakdown)

The United States Supreme Court released their decision on Brown v. Entertainment Merchants Association Monday, regarding a proposed act by California to create a new regulation on videogames to minors.

The measure called for particularly violent games to be sold only to consumers 18 or older (or a minor with a parent present) and effectively issue civil fines of up to $1000 for anyone in violation of the act. The court ruled 7-2 against the act, with Justices Breyer and Thomas dissenting.
