EVO 2012 Recap

One of the biggest tournaments in fighting game history went down over the weekend and gave way to numerous matches that had the crowds screaming for more. Evolution 2012 took place at the Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas and crowned several new champions in the process.

Of course, Arizona players represented well with Alex Rayis (a.k.a. DetroitBallin) making it to Mortal Kombat’s semi-finals, but the finals of each game were something to be admired with the amount of skill put on display. Read the rest of this entry »





Gaming events galore this weekend in AZ

If you’re not too busy ‘error 37’-ing it up with your buddies on Diablo III, there are tons of gaming events this weekend to hit up before the craziness that is the Phoenix Comicon is finally upon us.

Grab your controllers because this weekend is chock full of gaming opportunities.

AZHP Breaking in the New Year With Taiyou Con

Kicking off 2012 proper will be the AZHP hosting tournaments at the Taiyou Con anime convention the first weekend of January.

The event will be taking place on January 6-8 Taiyou Con at the Hilton Phoenix East/Mesa hotel.

Get Ready to Draw Some Blood(lines)

DEVASTATION may be over, but that doesn’t mean Arizona gamers are out of opportunities to duke it out! The Euphoria Gaming crew are hosting their third Bloodline tournament for multiple games in Tempe on Saturday.


The Bloodline 3 tournament will take place at the University of Advancing Technology. The Euphoria crew plan to host three competitions in Mortal Kombat 9, Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur IV (all on PS3). DEVASTATION: A Few Words With Jedirobb

DEVASTATION is only a few days away and the event is loaded and ready to go. The Pause Button got the chance to talk to the event coordinator Robb Chiarini (aka Jedirobb), and get some details, as well as thoughts on the upcoming tournament.

The event is set to officially begin on Friday October 7th and continue through Sunday at the Phoenix Convention Center. A multitude of competitions will be held for numerous first-person shooter, fighting, sports, rhythm, and strategy games throughout the weekend.

DEVASTATION recently suffered the loss of Team Sp00ky due to the alleged confiscation of their equipment by Homeland Security. Chiarini confirmed that there are three other stream broadcasters lined up for the convention including LevelUp and local boys Team Haz-mat to run the fighting game shows, with Beyond Gaming to cover the PC side of the competitions. They will broadcast on three separate channels through Twitch.tv: TwitchTV/DEVEVENT, TwitchTV/DEVASTATIONEVENT, and TwitchTV/BeyondGaming. according to the official event website.
