Champion League of Legends tournament and Mash Up! start August with a bang

31 07 2012

August is generally known as one of the more painfully hot months in Arizona, but this year it will be known for some intense competition courtesy of LAN Speed Games and Button Masherz.

Coming this Sunday will be the LSG Champion League of Legends tournament at LAN Speed Games in Peoria. The competition is a follow up to their past one, except this time around the group has been backed by Riot Games with prizes along with a $500 prize pot for the winning team.

The tournament calls for five-man teams (capped out at 16 teams for the entire event) with a $20 per a person entry fee. The brackets will be double elimination, runes and masteries allowed, and a strict ten-minute setup time to prepare for each round.

As said, Riot Games have contributed to the tournament so in addition to getting a $500 prize pot, the first place team will get $20 worth of Riot points and a Triumphant Ryze skin per player. Second, third and fourth placers will be getting their divvies of $15, $10, and $5 Riot point shares per player as well. The tournament is set to begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday. In addition to the big LoL event going down this weekend, Team Hazmat released a trailer on Monday for the upcoming Button Masherz event: Mash Up!

The event will be a multi-game tournament held at the Phoenix Center for the Arts with large prizes and several guests on August 11. The games included will be Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (2012 ver.), Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and King of Fighters XIII, along with dozens of casual setups for those not interested in directly competing.

Entry fees will be $30 per person, which covers entry into all three tournaments. The  prizes for each game are as follows:

SSFIV: AE (2012 ver.)

First place – $250; Second place – $125; Third place – a controller from Evil Controllers.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

First place – $300; Second place – $150; Third place – a controller from Evil Controllers.

King of Fighers XIII

Also in attendance will be noted competitors Infrit (Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 grand finalist at EVO 2012) and Fanatiq (UMvC3 champion at the recent East Coast Throwdown tournament). The event is also boasting a score of sponsors including AZHP Gaming, Broken Tier, Evil Controllers, Euphoria Gaming, and more; with Team Hazmat streaming the entire competition live on their Twitch.tv channel.
