Summer Video Game Awesome-ness Happening This Weekend

19 06 2012

Since the Team Hazmat Hazbats have officially come to a close and EVO is just over the horizon, Arizona players are kicking into practice mode to sharpen their skills for summer competition. A couple tournaments are taking place this weekend, as well as some fun breaks from the training schedule.

Our friends at Euphoria Gaming will be representing the King of Fighters crowd with their NeoBlaze tournament at the University of Advancing Technology on Saturday.

[UPDATE: We got whiff of a couple more events from the likes of the DEVASTATION crew and Team Hazmat this weekend. Check out the fully updated post for more details!]

The competition will consist of King of Fighters XIII and Blazblue: Continuum Shift Extend. Entry fees will be $5 per tournament (70/20/10 split) with registration starting at 1 p.m.; Blazblue will start off thereafter at 3 p.m and KOFXIII will be at 5 p.m. Players are encouraged to bring their own arcade sticks or pads. Mega Ran performing at Phoenix Comicon 2012.

For a fun aside from competition but still getting a dose of gaming, nerdcore hip-hop rapper Mega Ran will be in Arizona this weekend performing. If you missed some of our coverage regarding this artist at Phoenix Comicon, Mega Ran samples of video game soundtracks such as Mega Man and Final Fantasy VII in his songs.

Mega Ran will be a part of three shows this weekend. First at Heroes and Villains in Tucson on Thursday, Club Red in Tempe on Friday, and Speedway in Phoenix on Saturday. For more information on the shows, visit Mega Ran’s official website.

In addition, Team Hazmat will be running an EVO bootcamp on Saturday starting at 12 p.m. Participants need only pay a $5 venue fee to get in on all the practice they can before the major event.

Finally, the DEVASTATION crew is back in action after a brief break with a Sunday competition at Centerfolds in Phoenix. The event will consist of a Gears of War 3 2v2 Wingman tournament, as well as Mortal Kombat singles tournament. Registration will begin at 4 p.m. with no entry fees and prizes will consist of Best Buy gift cards. Check out their official Facebook event page for more details.
