Ranbats, Rumbles, and Absolute LAN-sanity

28 02 2012

Who knew that the break into March would be such a big one? Several local gaming groups this week are hosting tournaments and events of all kinds, and they’re getting a head start on Wednesday.

It seems like many Arizona groups are in on this one including the DEVASTATION crew, Team Hazmat, Arcade-in-a-Box, Digital Dojo, and LAN Speed Games all hosting their own respective events.

Kicking off the action will be Digital Dojo’s first Soul Calibur V tournament held at Manawerx (a.k.a. Outpost Games) in Glendale on Wednesday the 29th. The tournament is set to officially start at 9 p.m. (casuals begin at 8 p.m.) and costs $5 to enter. The brackets will be double-elimination and prize divisions going to the top three.

This will be the first of the group’s planned bi-weekly tournaments for Soul Calibur V. They plan to host others every other Wednesday starting on the 14th and 28th of March, then again on April 11th. All the action will be streamed on the Digital Dojo Twitch.tv channel. For more information check out their official Facebook event page.

Following up on Friday will be the debut of Arcade-in-a-Box’s second season of their web series Retro Rumble. The crew recently wrapped up a live show of Rumble and are now following up the very entertaining first season with new competitors going against the defending champion Aaron Holley. All episodes can be found on the Retro Rumble website and Youtube channel.

Saturday will play host to the finale of the Team Hazmat “hazbats” at the team’s hangout in Laveen. The thrilling conclusion of weeks of Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (2012 ver.) and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 comes down to the final rounds where the top three will be ranked, crowned, and rewarded.

Casuals and sign-ups start at 3 p.m. with SSFIV:AE starting off at 4p.m.  and UMvC3 following shortly thereafter at 8 p.m. To enter either tournament costs $5 and there will be a $5 venue fee if you enter both tournaments. The team will also be raffling off two copies of Street Fighter x Tekken at the event and tickets will also be sold at $5 a piece. As per usual practice, all the action will be streamed on the Team Hazmat Twitch.tv channel. For more information, check out their official Facebook event page.

"Backhand!"

Speaking of Street Fighter x Tekken, the DEVASTATION crew will be hosting their own midnight release party for the game, as well as Mass Effect 3, at the Microsoft Store in Scottsdale on Monday March 5th. The crew will be running a tournament at the event where the winner will get a copy of any Xbox 360 game in stock and second and third place will get $5 off any pre-order.

The first 100 in line for the release will also get swag bags. For more info, check out the DEVASTATION event page.

Finally, LAN Speed Games has officially announced their League of Legends tournament for March 18 and are currently taking sign-ups for teams. Even though the event is a little ways off, numerous teams have voted and submitted, so it’s likely that slots will fill up fast. They also will release details about their Starcraft and Magic the Gathering tournaments as well. To sign-up or get more info, visit the LAN Speed Games Facebook page.

So take a deep breath and let’s recap….
