The Pause Button’s 100th Post! (And yeah some gaming stuff too)

14 09 2011

Do you guys know what today is? Well yes it is Wednesday, but it’s also the day that The Pause Button makes its 100th post! We’d like to thank all of our followers, readers, and all the awesome Arizona people who have made this blog interesting, fun, and insanely cool to write! –IncreaseBlue

Now true to course, here’s the breakdown for this weekend:

First off peeps, DEVASTATION is only three weeks away. DEVASTATION team members announced via Twitter on Monday that the hotel for the competition has officially sold out of rooms and there is a request for more, but if that’s any indicator, space is going fast and tickets are likely to follow. (Our friends at LightningOctopus have even wrangled up a discount code for those who still need to buy tickets!)

Starting off the week is the Thursday night Video Game Trivia event at Cade Gallery in downtown Phoenix. The event was cancelled last month due to an indisposed host and one heck of a haboob, so this months’ event will likely be bursting with difficult questions to make up for lost time. As usual practice, the event will kick off at 7 p.m. with prizes and bragging rights going to the winner. The arcade will also be accessible for open play that night as well.

Arcade in a Box continues the speed with their dual Street Fighter tournaments on Saturday. The competitions will revolve around Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. The arcade’s doors open at 12 p.m. with a $10 entry fee and the tournaments start at 2 p.m. with a $10 fee per slot in each competition (for winner‘s pot). Now that AiaB has a shiny new stream, the tournament action will likely be live cast on their Twitch.tv channel.

Finally Monday will be anything but a boring start of the week because the DEVASTATION crew will be hosting a Gears of War 3 midnight release event at the Microsoft Store in Scottsdale. The party will kick off at 9 p.m. until the stroke of midnight when attendees can pick up their copies of the game. No tournaments are planned, but the crew promises food, refreshments, free play on Gears of War 3, giveaways, raffles, and an appearance by a couple of Gears cosplayers.
