Fight Nights and Finales

2 08 2011

With summer coming to a close and the absolute craziness that was had at this years’ EVO, it’s understandable that gamers in Arizona will be clamoring to get in as much tournament play as they can. Luckily there are tons of events happening in August, with a double dose this week from the DEVASTATION crew.

On Friday the team will be hosting their Fight Night event (previously pushed back from July 22) at the Microsoft Store in Scottsdale. The event will have three main tournaments for Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Tekken 6, with casual setups for Mortal Kombat, Blazblue: Continuum Shift II, Soul Calibur IV, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

The tournaments are set to kick off at 9 p.m. and run all the way to 12 a.m. There are no entry fees, all games will be played on Xbox 360, and players are encouraged to bring their own controllers or arcade sticks. Prizes are unknown as of yet but the crew promises that they will be big (plus there will be pizza and refreshments served –bonus!).

Only two days later the team will have their own finals day to their Marvel vs. Capcom 3 ranbats season on Sunday at LAN Speed Games.

Registration for the final battle will start at 12 p.m. for a $1 entry fee and the competition starts at 1 p.m. The game will be played on Xbox 360 and the winner will be awarded the entire pot of fees collected over the season. Since it’s the last of the season, there’s bound to be mad hype for the grand finale, so players and spectators are more than welcome.

Also the beginning of August means that Tucson’s Arcade in a Box will be resuming their own tournament schedules so be on the lookout for more info in future posts!

Finally The Pause Button would like to congratulate Arizona’s own Latif for his performance at EVO, in which he overcame the former SSFIV champ Daigo Umehara, and placed second after an epic throw down with Japan’s Fuudo in the Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition finals. If you happened to miss it, check out the grand finals match video below:
