10 05 2011

If you haven’t had enough of video game tournaments yet, there are tons of opportunities for you to get your fix with four different competitions occurring this weekend in Arizona.

Since May is officially Video Game Month at Bookmans, they are hosting a slew of video game challenges for kids and adults. On Saturday the Flagstaff location will be hosting a Mortal Kombat tournament on Xbox 360 for teens and adults, with a Cars tournament for the younger gamers.

Sign-ups begin at 12 p.m. for the Mortal Kombat tournament and prizes include a $100 gift card for first place, $50 for second, and $25 for third. If your Johnny Cage isn’t up to snuff you can always coach your little brother on his Mater drifting skills and win some big cash.

Meanwhile, the Phoenix Bookmans location will play host to a different Mortal Kombat tournament on Saturday, this time run by the DEVASTATION crew. The tournament will be capped off at 32-players and registration opens at 12 p.m. The competition will be double-elimination and played on Playstation 3. Prizes are the same as with the Flagstaff tournament, except for extra $5 certificates for the fourth through eighth place winners.

If Mortal Kombat isn’t your thing, then the guys with Euphoria Gaming will be running Blazblue: Continuum Shift and Arcana Heart 3 tournaments on Saturday at Gotham City Comics. There is no cap known as of yet but there is a $10 entry fee. Casuals will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the competitions kicking off at 1:30 p.m. Both games will be played on the Playstation 3 and prizes will be a 70/20/10 divvy of entry fees between the first, second, and third placements.

Finally there is the third round of the DEVASTATION Marvel vs. Capcom 3 ranbats going on at LAN Speed Games on Sunday. This tournament will only have $1 entry fee (all of the fees go to the highest ranking at the end of the season) and registration for it opens up at noon. The game will be played on Xbox 360 and bringing your own arcade stick or controller is highly recommended.
