Panasonic Cancels ‘Jungle’ Gaming System

1 03 2011

Electronics company Panasonic announced on Tuesday that their massively multiplayer online handheld system called the Jungle was officially cancelled.

The project was stopped due to a reported “changes in the market and our own strategic direction” according to a press statement by the company.

The system was unveiled last October by the company and was planned to cater specifically to MMO games on the go. A Battlestar Galactica Online title was specifically featured as a part of the reveal among other things.

The cancellation of the project doesn’t appear to come off as much of a surprise to the gaming community, as many had their doubts about Panasonic re-entering the video game system market again.

Fans of the Jungle Facebook page have mixed reactions. Some are disappointed, while others are simply fed up.

Craig Rees expressed his sadness at seeing the system cancelled: “CANCELLATION!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!! I was actually really looking forward to checking this piece of kit out, why should Nintendo, Sony and Apple have the only devices?? We need more choice!!!!

Another fan on the page, Karlos Coleman, had a different opinion: “What sort of idiot developes all this Hardware/Software in this saturated market in the first place! It all sound horribly irresponsible! Like are these people on drugs? Or just plain stupid? SCREW IT WE WAITED LONG ENOUGH!

What do you guys think? Was Jungle a good idea that didn’t come to fruition or just plain doomed from the start?
