AZHP to host gaming at Taiyou Con

7 12 2010

The Arizona Hobbyists Paradise crew will kick off 2011 with a slew of tournaments and casual games during January’s Taiyou Con anime convention in Mesa.

AZHP is a community-oriented group that regularly hosts gaming rooms and events throughout the year in Arizona and neighboring states (for more info, see this previous Pause Button post about them). The Taiyou Con convention will take place on January 7-9 at the Hilton Phoenix/East Mesa resort located at 1011 West Holmes Avenue.

The founder of AZHP, commonly known as FrankCastleAZ, released an official list of a variety of tournaments slated to be held over the entire weekend the convention takes place.

Among the scheduled tournaments for Friday, there will be Super Street Fighter Turbo II HD Remix, Tekken 6, Halo Reach, and Super Puzzle Fighter II HD Turbo Remix.

Tournaments scheduled to take place on Saturday are for Dance Dance Revolution, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Street Fighter IV, and Call of Duty: Black Ops. Rounding out the Sunday tournament schedule are BlazBlue: Continuum Shift and Naruto Shippuden: Clash of Ninja Revolution 3.

FrankCastleAZ has commented on the AZHP Facebook page that there will be a cap on the number of competitors who can participate in given tournaments (the exact number is unknown as of yet) and that those who are interested in competing can sign up on the Taiyou Con forums.

The AZHP gaming room will also reportedly have casual setups for Rock Band 3, DJ Hero 2, Touhou Project, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, and other games throughout the weekend.

Pre-registration for Taiyou Con is currently open. Con-goers can get a full weekend pass for $25 on the Taiyou Con website until December 31. After that cut off date, full-event passes will be available for $35 at the door as well as single-day passes for Friday at $20, Saturday for $20, and Sunday for $15.
