Saboten-con to feature game tournaments in October

14 09 2010

The upcoming anime convention in Phoenix, Ariz., known as Saboten-con, will host more than voice actor panels and cosplayer gatherings, it will also feature gaming tournaments!

Once again, Saboten-con will include a hefty gaming room that will be run by the Arizona Hobbyists Paradise when it begins on its new dates of October 1-3.

The Arizona Hobbyists Paradise is an Arizona based group dedicated to promoting hobbyist growth and community at events, according to the AZHP website. The group has run gaming rooms at dozens of events in the past including Phoenix Comicon, Anime Kaigi, and Saboten-con.

The AZHP plans to run multiple dedicated gaming setups for casual play, as well as a rotating tournament schedule through out the weekend. While the tournament schedule has not been released by the AZHP as of yet, the group has commented on what specific games they intend to run in the gaming room.

The founder of the AZHP, known as FrankCastleAZ, has made several comments on the Saboten-con forums as to which games and what setups attendees of the convention can expect to see in the gaming room.

Games such as Blazblue: Continuum Shift, Tekken 6, Super Street Fighter IV, and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike will be guaranteed to run on a dedicated setup (meaning that it will not be changed to a different game later on in the day) with AZHP tournament edition fightsticks, FrankCastleAZ commented.

The AZHP will also run dedicated setups for DJ Hero, Rock Band 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Dance Dance Revolution, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, according to the forum post by FrankCastleAZ.

According to post by FrankCastleAZ on the Sabotencon forums, the AZHP will be running in total “16 console setups, 4 PC setups, 1 PC Touhou setup and 1 arcade machine.”

For any attendees interested in participating in tournaments, there will reportedly be sign-up sheets available throughout the weekend. The gaming room is open to any and all Saboten-con ticket buyers.

Saboten-con will take place on October 1-3 at the Hilton Squaw Peak Resort located at 7677 North 16th Street in Phoenix. Tickets are currently $40 for full event tickets (until Sept. 22), $20 for Friday-only passes, $25 for Saturday-only passes, and $15 for Sunday-only passes. All ticket prices will be increased on the day of the event.
