DEVASTATION: Day 2

19 06 2010

The second day of the DEVASTATION gaming event started off Saturday with packed rooms and stiff competition in the downtown Phoenix Convention Center.

Both gamers known as King Salmon and Kraziecd brought some intense matches early into the Soul Caliber 4 tournament.

Tournaments for Soul Caliber 4 and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 began the day on the large projection screens and treated the thousands of attendees to terrific and intense matches between players.

Two gamers known as DreamKiller and NoFaceKiller won the winners bracket for Soul Caliber 4 and two others known as Thuggish Pond and King Salmon took the losers bracket, according to the DEVASTATION twitter feed. All four are primed to compete in the grand finals on Sunday.

Several other tournament pools were being fulfilled while the MvC2 tournament was being projected on the big screens. This made following all of the action a bit difficult, but there was always something going on.

The Marvel vs. Capcom 2 tournament kicked off right after Soul Caliber 4 and led to matches that were so intense, the players would accidentally hit buttons to take them to the Playstation XMB screen by accident (an action that calls for immediate forfeit of a round should judges feel it is necessary).

The lower tier MvC2 finals will feature gamers K.Beast and MikeJonesJaxson competing, as well as upper tier finalists competing Sunday as well.

DJ Hero finals were decided on Saturday with gamers vVv mDaWg taking first place, vVv MBall3r taking second and JuMpMaaN taking third respectively.

The games set for the grand finals on Sunday are Super Smash Brothers, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (both tiers), and BlazBlue. The Street Fighter HD Remix top 4, Soul Caliber 4 top 4, Tekken 6 top 4, and Super Street Fighter 4 top 8 will all be competing on Sunday as well.

Rob Chiarini (a.k.a Jedirobb) commented with DjWHEAT on on the DEVASTATION live stream about the wrap up of day 2 and what the finals on Sunday will hold.

The day’s games were once again covered by DjWHEAT and Swoozie, as well as other guest commentators. The finals on Sunday will be again streamed onto the DEVASTATION website.
