Arizona Hobbyists Paradise is at it again, and for a good cause too! FrankCastleAZ and AZHP are hosting five video game tournaments on Friday at the Corona Del Sol High School as a fundraiser for its television/film club.
The competitions will be hosted in the Corona Del Sol school’s small gym with an $8 entry fee for all tournaments. According to AZHP creator FrankCastleAZ, more than half of the proceeds will go to the club for new video equipment.
The tournaments will include Mario Kart Wii, Madden NFL 11, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Super Street Fighter IV. Both Madden and Super Smash are set to start at 4 p.m., the rest will begin at 6 p.m., and the entire event is scheduled to close at 9 p.m.
Frank commented on Tuesday that the idea came from a Corona Del Sol student and member of the schools’ television club, Lawrence Bryant, who frequented the AZHP gaming rooms at previous Saboten-Con conventions. He said that Bryant approached him with the idea when his club was fielding suggestions for potential fundraisers.
“I thought it was a cool idea,” said Frank. “I’m kind of jealous, we didn’t have this in high school when I went, but now we can do something cool for the kids that’s gonna be on campus.”
The tournaments are open to the public and donations will be accepted as well. Frank confirmed that a few other games will be present for casual setups but only the five aforementioned games are confirmed for tournaments.
